Martijn returns to BBC Symphony Orchestra
Martijn returns to BBC Symphony Orchestra
Following his successful debut in October 2025 with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7, he was immediately reinvited to the current season and will conduct the BBC Symphony Orchestra for another studio concert on April 28 at 14:30 in the Maida Vale Studios.
In this concert, Martijn will conduct Jonathan Dove’s Hojoki for countertenor and orchestra, featuring the internationally acclaimed countertenor Hugh Cutting as soloist. Inspired by the 13th-century Japanese text Hōjōki by Kamo no Chōmei, the work unfolds in a refined, contemplative sound world of luminous orchestration and introspective lyricism.
The programme further includes Franz Liszt’s symphonic poem Les Préludes, a landmark of the romantic orchestral repertoire, alongside Lamia by British composer Dorothy Howell. Martijn had previously conducted the German première of this late-romantic tone poem with the Hofer Symphoniker.
